Donald Trump - Was He The Right Fit For President?

Almost everybody knows this infamous billionaire who “ruled” America. But was he truly the right man for the job?

Was Trump the right person to be President? Well, there are a lot of things that might have turned someone away or towards supporting Trump. We are taking a look into some of the things he’s done during his time in politics, and seeing if we think he did a good job.

Donald Trump is the former 45th President of the United States of America. He was born and raised in Queens, New York and became President on January 20th, 2017 after the election results were announced and he won against Hilary Clinton. He lost against Joe Biden in the 2020 elections.

Trump’s View on Human Rights

Trump has a very long history of racism. Trump has questioned former President Barack Obama’s citizenship many times, for the simple colour of his skin. He had no reason whatsoever to do that apart from a few conspiracy theories. Trump has also degraded whole countries. Here’s a link to his history of racism. Trump degrades people for being female. He once said, "I think the only difference between me and the other candidates is that I’m more honest and my women are more beautiful." This is problematic, as he is talking about women as if they are objects. Trump is also homophobic, as he has asked the high court to legalize discrimination against people of the LGBTQIA+ community. Trump has tried to make gay marriage illegal and has said “We have some very terrible Supreme Court justices, and frankly, they should have at least had that [same-sex marriage case] as a state’s right issue.” Trump is also anti-immigration, with separating parents from their kids and making them pay to get them back. He has also made a “Muslim Ban” and is not only trying to ban illegal immigration, but is also trying to reduce legal immigration.

Trump and the Worldwide Pandemic

Trump being the former President and COVID-19 have not mixed very well together. He was very skeptical about masks, only starting to wear one after having about 70 thousand cases. Trump was in the hospital with COVID-19 himself though, which was quite ironic. The cases have continued to rise and a surprising statistic is that even though the USA only has 4.3% of the world's population, it has 25% of the world’s COVID-19 cases (chart at bottom). Trump has also said that “If we did half the testing, we would have far fewer cases.” He seems to not be taking COVID-19 seriously.

The USA has only 4.3% of the world’s people but 25% of the world’s COVID cases.

Global Warming

President Trump and global warming are not a good mixture either. He once tweeted, “The weather has been so cold for so long that the global warming HOAXSTERS were forced to change the name to climate change to keep the $ flow! As shown in the tweet above, he stated that global warming and climate change are the same thing. He’s also said, “I don’t believe it.” multiple times. He also has laughed about it many times. Donald Trump does not believe in global warming, and that has had an impact on US climate policies.

Is Trump a Good Role-Model?

In our Google survey, we asked people what they thought a good role model was. Most of the 36 respondents said something among the lines of that a good role model is someone that you can look up to, and someone who influences others in a good way. As shown in the paragraphs above, he does not do these things.

Conclusion

Trump didn’t seem like the right man for the job to a lot of people for his views on race and immigration, the current global pandemic, and global warming. He’s made a lot of people unhappy with his decisions and it is our belief that he was not a good fit for President.
